DOUBLE TAKE SERIES
Morgan Everhart is always on the hunt for a great work of art with which to spend time. Intuition plays a role in helping her pick her company, although most often it is a matter of a detail grabbing her attention, like a shock of bright fabric or the curves of a dangling pear so ripe it threatens to fall. Everhart likes to sit for a while with her sources, a disparate group that includes works by the likes of John Singer Sargent, Marco Zoppo and R.B. Kitaj, and let their impressions on her percolate. The artist then proceeds to paint her reactions to them in small-scale paintings often begun in groups and worked on over several days (in contrast to her larger works which typically take years to create). The degree to which Everhart’s responses visually relate to their sources varies greatly, and depends on several external factors including past and present events in her life. In producing these paintings, Everhart is interested in examining how she processes the work of others and how in turn her audience engages with her reactions.
